The Best time to Start Training was Yesterday.

Coming back to the gym after a long break can feel daunting and challenging. However, it's entirely normal for people to lose track of their fitness goals, so there's no need to worry. Many gym-goers take time off for various reasons, whether due to personal crises or simply a loss of motivation.

When new clients return to STRIVE® after a prolonged absence, our Personal Coaches are ready to help them get back on track. However, returning to the gym won't be like business as usual. Here are three key points we share with our new clients:

1) Manage your expectations.

Whether you're into weightlifting or cardio, you can't expect to pick up right where you left off. Be prepared to realise that you're not as strong, fast, or fit as you used to be. Don't let this discourage you, and most importantly, don't compare yourself to your past performance. Like any skill, taking a long break can make you a bit rusty.

But don't worry – you can regain your strength, speed, and fitness over time. Just like military snipers are advised to 'aim small, miss small,' we understand the importance of taking things one step at a time at STRIVE®.

2) Expect some soreness.

Just like a rusty tool needs time to get back in shape, your body will need time to recover and adapt to the gym routine again. This might result in delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS), which is a normal part of the process. When you exercise, whether through resistance training or cardio, your muscles experience microscopic tears. As your body repairs these tears, it causes soreness and tenderness in the trained muscles, usually lasting for a day or two.

The good news is that once your muscles recover, they'll be stronger than before. In the long run, you'll find that you can lift heavier weights or run farther and recover faster. Embrace the soreness – it's a sign of progress! Our Personal Coaches are equipped to help you manage this process through stretching and other techniques.

3) You're not alone!

STRIVE® isn't just a gym; it's a community of like-minded individuals who understand the importance of hard work, commitment, and dedication in achieving fitness goals. We're here to support you every step of the way. Just like the saying goes, 'the strength of the wolf is the pack, and the strength of the pack is the wolf,' we believe that a fitness-based community is essential for individual growth.

When you step into STRIVE®, you're not just joining a gym – you're becoming part of a community. Our Personal Coaches are here to assist you in various areas, including nutrition, strength training, weight loss, and overall wellness.
