5 Weight Loss Myths
With so much information available online, it’s easy to get confused. This blog aims to clear up some common myths about fitness and weight loss that we often hear at the STRIVE® Training Club, your trusted gym for Small Group Personal Training in Osborne Park.
Myth 1: Cardio Is Best For Weight Loss
While cardio is great for overall health and can support your weight loss journey, it alone won't cause weight loss. Weight loss happens when you burn more calories than you consume. That’s why we include a conditioning element as part of our Small Group Personal Training programs.
Myth 2: Core Exercises Will Burn Stomach Fat
Core exercises are essential for improving performance and reducing injury risk. However, you can't target fat loss in specific areas. To lose belly fat, you need to consistently maintain a calorie deficit. Patience and persistence are key. Our Small Group Personal Training sessions focus on overall fitness to help you achieve your goals.
Myth 3: Carbs Make You Fat
No single nutrient causes weight gain. Eating too much of anything can lead to weight gain. Carbs are a great energy source and taste delicious (who doesn’t love pizza!). The idea that eating carbs after 6pm causes weight gain is also a myth. At the STRIVE® Training Club, our coaches provide balanced nutrition advice as part of our Small Group Personal Training sessions.
Myth 4: Foods Labeled Low/Reduced Fat Are Always Healthy
Be careful with "low-fat" labels. These foods often have added sugars or other ingredients. Always check the calorie and ingredient content to be sure. Our Small Group Personal Training sessions include education on making healthier food choices.
Myth 5: Starving Myself Is the Best Way to Lose Weight
This approach is unsustainable and unhealthy. It leads to low energy, missed nutrients, and eventually cravings and bingeing, which can result in weight gain. Our Small Group Personal Training programs promote balanced, sustainable eating habits.
